Description
Person usually appointed by the government or by parliament, having a significant degree of independence and is mandated with representing the interests of the public by investigating and addressing complaints of maladministration or a violation of rights.

In many countries where the ombudsperson’s responsibility includes protecting human rights, the ombudsperson is recognised as the National Human Rights Institution.
