A state of no direct or indirect discrimination based on sex and gender, including less favourable treatment of women for reasons of pregnancy and maternity.

More favourable provisions concerning the protection of women as regards pregnancy and maternity, and positive measures that aim to achieve substantive gender equality, are not contrary to the principle of equal treatment.
